Stand Out and Move Up the Career Ladder

carrer ladderStand Out and Move Up on Your Career Ladder!

Looking at the population of GCC particularly in UAE, it is significantly comprised of EXPATS from different parts of the world. EXPATS who are trying to look for a better and brighter opportunity abroad. According to go-gulf.ae as of 2016, 88.5% of the population in the UAE are EXPATS. However, most of the time, the opportunity that they have been looking for is not easy to be found.

There are many reasons why this case is happening. Aside from the present economic status of UAE, the educational attainment and the past industries of the EXPATS are not aligned to the requirement of this country.

The question is, how do we bridge this gap?

First, you have to know the on-demand industries here are in the UAE. Second, you have to know where are you now among these industries. And lastly, it is not easy to be noticed by employers if you have no experience in UAE nor if you do not have standard qualifications for it; therefore, the question is how do you bring yourself on top of the line?

Based on Go-Gulf, here are the top 3 industries in UAE:

  1. Construction- 12%

  2. Retails and Wholesale Trade- 11%

  3. Financial Services- 10%

Are you in the above mentioned industries? If yes, then that is a good news! All you have to check is if you have standard certifications for that industry and what certifications you can acquire. If not, then there are basic/ foundation trainings that you can try to see where you will fit.

As part of the training and education industry, here are the course categories that fit in those industries.

  1. Health and Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH)

  2. Management Courses (ISO courses, IT Service Management System)

  3. Information Security, IT Risk Management

There are always GOOD effect if you will acquire certifications and trainings; if you are one of the young professionals, you will expose yourself to different opportunities, meaning you are creating more options for yourself while you are exploring on what field you will embark on; and If you are already in the field of your advantage, investing in trainings and other CPDs is not really a waste of time and resources.

Competing with the 88.5 % of expats is not easy, but if you will invest in trainings and courses, sure you have a huge advantage!
